Moving on to Secondary School

• Open Evenings: Local secondary schools hold open evenings during the Autumn term, giving parents the opportunity to visit and explore options before choosing their child's next school.
• Induction Days: Secondary schools organise induction days in the Summer term. Parents will be informed of the exact dates by the schools.
• Preparation by Year 6 Teachers: During the Summer term, Year 6 teachers prepare children for the transition to secondary school. Many secondary schools send staff to meet the children, allowing them to ask questions and feel more at ease.
• Handover Process: Year 6 teachers have a thorough handover with key staff from the secondary schools. For students with special educational needs, SEND teams from the relevant secondary schools will coordinate with our Inclusion team to ensure a smooth transition.
• Additional Visits & Transition Sessions: If necessary, additional visits and transition sessions can be arranged to further support children during their move to secondary school.
