Crondall Primary School

New Starters - Starting in Reception (EYFS) in September

Starting school is a big step, and we are committed to making this transition as smooth as possible for both children and their families. Here's what we have planned to support your child as they begin their journey at Crondall Primary School.

Once Places Have Been Allocated:

  • We will send out welcome letters to parents, outlining important induction events.

During the Summer Term:

  • Rainbow Class Rendezvous:
    • Meet your child’s Class Teacher, Teaching Assistant, Senior Leadership Team, and other families joining our school.
    • Take a look inside the Reception class and explore the learning space.
    • Second-hand uniform will be available for purchase.
  • Two Stay-and-Play Sessions (without parents and carers):
    • Children can experience the classroom environment and meet their new classmates.
  • Liaison between the EYFS Teachers and Local Nurseries:
    • We ensure a smooth transition and gather important information about each child’s learning needs.
  • Virtual Home Visits:
    • Dates and times will be organised for home visits to meet families and provide an opportunity for children to ask questions in a familiar setting.

Start of the Autumn Term:

  • One Afternoon Only for First week:
    • Children will attend in small groups, providing a gentle start to their school life.
  • One Morning Plus Lunch:
    • The whole class come together for one day helping them settle in before beginning full-time attendance.
  • Virtual Home Visits:
    • To continue supporting families, we conduct virtual home visits.
  • Part-Time Attendance Option:
    • We offer part-time attendance in consultation with Senior Leaders, ensuring a transition pace that works best for your child.
  • Parent Information Meeting in September:
    • We will hold a meeting for parents to discuss the curriculum, with a focus on supporting phonics and reading at home.

Joining Other Year Groups or at Other Times of the School Year

If your child is joining Crondall Primary School in another year group, either in September or at another time during the school year, we encourage the following:

  • Tour of the School:
    • Parents and children can visit the school and meet the teacher before starting, helping to ease the transition.
  • Additional Visits if Needed:
    • If necessary, your child may make one or more visits to their new class before starting full time.
  • Liaison with Previous School:
    • We communicate with your child's previous school (if applicable) to ensure we have the necessary information for a smooth transition.
  • Settling In:
    • Children usually settle quickly into their new classes, warmly welcomed by their new classmates.

We look forward to welcoming your child and supporting them every step of the way.
