Crondall Primary School

Smartphone Free School

Smartphone free school

At Crondall Primary School, we are invested in nurturing the health, emotional well-being and development of every child entrusted to our care. In alignment with this core value, we are actively supporting families in making the choice to postpone the introduction of smartphones for their children by encouraging participation in the Hampshire Parent Pact.

Understanding the concerns

Some research shows that introducing smartphones prematurely can expose children to several potential difficulties, including:

  •  Increased risk of issues such as anxiety, depression and poor quality sleep.
  •  Access to unsuitable content and the potential for contact with online predators.
  •  The risk of addiction to social media and screen time, which can detract from learning and valuable face-   to-face interactions.
  •  Experiencing online bullying and succumbing to peer pressure within digital environments.

Our collaborative approach

Crondall Primary School has joined with many schools in the Fleet area to ensure that our pupils do not feel pressured to acquire a smartphone before they are developmentally ready.

We invite all parents and carers to discover more about this initiative and to sign the pact here: https://hampshireparentpact.smartphonefreechildhood.co.uk/
If you are looking for child-appropriate communication devices, you can find helpful options here: https://www.smartphonefreechildhood.org/alternatives

We appreciate the support shown by so many families since this initiative was first communicated in July 2025. Letter to families

Please be aware: Effective from 1 January 2026, pupils in Years 3 to 5 will not be permitted to bring smartphones onto school premises.
